Still Life at the Penguin Cafe

As I work, on words I do ponder,

I look outside, my mind it wanders,

I see through glass the world outside,

I seek inspiration for another rhyme.

The sun grazing emerald leaves,

Warm grass mowed and clean,

A dog runs by far from its master,

A cat walks by, oblivious to disaster.

Life is a mixture of sunshine & rain, teardrops & laughter, pleasure & pain. There was never a cloud that the sun couldn't shine through.
Life is a mixture of sunshine & rain, teardrops & laughter, pleasure & pain. There was never a cloud that the sun couldn't shine through.

Sparkling sands of the playground,

Children's laughter all around

People walking by the trail,

By the lake, which has no sand.

All of life from my window I see,

While I should be at work on poetry,

My gaze returns to my computer screen,

As I ponder my next poetic scene.

Thank you cleaner3, exactly the kind of effect I was hoping to achieve with this piece.

It's interesting that you see such peace and tranquility outside Camp Crame. That's a military camp, isn't it? Or has it been turned into something else? Voting this Up and Beautiful.

alocsin, Camp Crame used to be a military camp but when the Philippine Constabulary became the Philippine National Police it is now the national headquarters of our country's civilian police force. Somehow it doesn't have the bustle of metropolitan traffic and it has an elementary school within its grounds, so from time to time I could hear children's voices singing. Thanks for your comment.

Very interesting poem, with a turn at the end that I wasn't expecting. Very nice photographs as well.

The mentioin of Camp Crane and the Phillippines in earlier comments took me back 30 years. My father was in the Air Force and in the early 70's he was stationed at Clark AFB.

I flew over one summer in an un-air conditioned military personnel transport plane (I was staying with my grandmother in Georgia and had just started college)to spend time with my family.

Dreadful, miserable plane trip, but a great visit to a lush, green, and beautiful country, :)

phdast7, that was quite an experience traveling in an un-airconditioned military transport plane. I'm glad that the beauty of our country made up for the dreadful plane trip. Clark Airbase is now a bustling commercial and industrial zone. Thank you for your comments.
