Bananas Can Save Your Life

Do you wish you could motivate yourself to make better eating choices? Nothing stops you from becoming a healthy eater except a belief you cannot make a commitment to healthy consumption and stick to it.

Before my two incidents of blacking out and collapsing during the last week of November 2009, bananas were one of my least favorite fruits. For me, it has a dry taste and was something which I will not bother to eat unless it’s in a banana split. However, after more than a week of being confined in a hospital and several months of outpatient laboratory tests to monitor the levels of my potassium, magnesium and all other nutrients badly needed by our bodies in order to function properly – I’ve become a convert, with a little convincing from my doctor. I began to appreciate bananas and learned that bananas are a super food with many nutritional benefits, including potassium, fiber, healthy carbohydrates, and small amounts of protein.

This article describes 4 tips for using bananas to change your life.

1. Keep bananas with you everywhere you go. This option is a healthy alternative to buying food from fast food joints and snack machines. You can leave bananas overnight at the office, in your car, or lying around the house without worrying about short-term spoilage. Banana snacks are perfect for busy lifestyles.

2. Consume a banana a day for regularity. For people with irregular bowel movements on either end of the spectrum, including diarrhea and constipation, eating fiber every day in the form of a banana provides stability to the intestines. Eating in a pattern trains your bowels, and you get the added benefit of more control over the timing of bowel movements.

3. Keep your compost pile well-stocked. You can spend time letting fresh produce rot that is never eaten, and then throw it guiltily away in the compost pile. An alternative is to add banana peels to your compost pile after you have kept your daily commitment to eating at least one.

4. Eat a banana when you get the late night munchies. Nighttime is a common time for people to choose unhealthy comfort foods like chips, popcorn, cake, brownies, cookies, and ice cream. Reach for a banana when food cravings occur in between dinner and bedtime. You might have to rid your kitchen of junk food.

You can also perform medical research to discover some more the health benefits of bananas, including their cancer prevention properties. Train yourself to enjoy bananas by making it convenient to reach for them whenever you are hungry, on the go or at home. It took me two pretty serious incidents to start buying into the importance of eating bananas to help maintain a healthy diet and stock up on needed nutrients for my body using natural food instead of supplements or medicines. Don’t wait for that to happen to you and start eating healthy foods, such as bananas.
